A Library to Unbind Black Study and Being
The creation, sharing, and embodiment of knowing is a political act with life-altering impacts. Collaborating as an interdependent set of ecologies, rather than hierarchy, this aspect of the Anointing Apothecary is a repository of knowing which aims to bring together the scope of existing disciplines, fields, and (yet-to-be) extra-instititutional practices across regions and time. As participants, educational contributors, and supporters we come together through shared experiences of having our resources siphoned, distorted, discredited, and creatively protected by any means necessary. This library is part of the curriculum foundation for the Apothecary's larger commitment to dismantle all archetypes of antiblackness, while developing new relationship templates not based in our world value matrix. While this space is deeply inspired by a millenia of Freedom School traditions across (un)recognized dimensions of Black Radical Traditions, this Apothecary seeks to create new ecologies of living with one another.
Regardless of valence, we become who we are alongside, and through one another. In the fluctuating scope of becoming, we repeatedly experience thresholds and liminal spaces where we are no longer who we were, and are not yet arrived at a new embodiment of ourselves. Unbound to become -- the intention of this repository -- we are unraveling, pruning, rearranging, grafting, inventing, and retrieving. In this process, we are truthful about the challenges, desires, types of knowing, and imaginings related to the bridgework of living in between the disintegration and yet to be. It is this revisited opening this Apothecary treats as a crucial space to develop new relationship templates, embody life-affirming consciousness and relations of the world we yearn for.
Across the library and courses, you will find that this living space of intergenerational wisdom brings together donations of time and resource from community educators, a materia medica for antiblackness, Earth-based ecologies, bridgeworkers, farmers, neighbors, family, friends, creatives, (health)care providers and more in commitment to these aims.
Meet Brianna
I am a bridgeworker, researcher, and bodywork practitioner. I combine my passion for research and learning healing modalities to offer political and physiological tools to contend with antiblackness.
I created the Anointing Apothecary to share the ancestral and Earth informed tools, which helped me repair my relationship with myself, the evolving nature of my body, nurture the growth of my communities, my perception, and my sensitivity. I offer what helped me return and amplify love for myself as a Black woman while deepening my collaboration with the Earth, and my purpose in this lifetime.
This space is an act of faith and conviction that the medicine I need(ed) can support others looking to enhance their relationship with themselves and others. May this encourage you to enjoy the journey of being yourself.
